About Child Nutrition Program, Inc.

Child Nutrition Program, Inc. is a private non-profit organization dedicated to helping child care providers make the most out of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The food program is our only business. We have both nutritionists and child development specialists on our staff, making us well-qualified to serve the providers who serve the children in their care.

As a CACFP sponsor, we:

  • help child care homes and child care centers get set up to meet program requirements so they can begin receiving reimbursement;
  • file monthly claims for providers;
  • mail checks on a dependable monthly schedule with a statement of how the reimbursement was calculated;
  • make sure that providers remain in compliance with program requirements;
  • help providers receive the best possible reimbursement rate by keeping abreast of program changes and maintaining an up-to-date database of program participants;
  • provide personalized, one-on-one training at the providers' convenience;
  • offer periodic workshops of interest to providers that meet licensing training requirements;
  • provide a useful handbook including procedures, nutrition information, meal-planning tips, and other helpful information;
  • publish a quarterly newsletter with recipes and activities to teach children about healthy eating;
  • offer a library-by-mail, including informational videos, children's books, cookbooks (and we pay the postage);
  • maintain a courteous, professional staff, including a trained nutritionist, to answer your questions.

We serve child care providers in 24 North Carolina counties from our two offices in Charlotte and Fayetteville.

Executive Director Vicki Lipscomb co-founded Child Nutrition Program, Inc. with her mother, Doris Cromartie, in 1982 to meet the community's need for a CACFP sponsor for area family child care homes. Vicki continues to make serving the people who serve the children the guiding principle in the way she runs Child Nutrition Program today.
